Louisville’s Urban Bourbon Trail iPhone App

I downloaded the Urban Bourbon Trail iPhone AppLouisville's Urban Bourbon Trail iPhone App on the day it came out, 5/27, and just now really had a chance to play around with it.

Overall this was a really good idea. The key features to this app are the map of the area, a list of the bars and restaurants/passport and featured bourbons.

The one feature in this app that I really like is the list of the bars and restaurants which also acts as your Urban Bourbon Trail passport. When you click on one of them it gives you a description of the place and buttons for directions, telephone number and their website. At the bottom there is a place to enter a stamp code. This code is given to you by your server or bartender to show that you visited that particular bar or restaurant. I know that I may not always have my passport on me but I will have my phone on me.

The map portion is just your normal Google map with pins placed where the bars and restaurants are located. It does ask to use your current location so I am guessing that is for giving directions to the place you would like to visit.

“Featured bourbons” is neat because it will tell you a bit about the bourbon and give you recipes using the it. This, by all means, is not a comprehensive list. It may be an advertising tool for the bourbon companies that are in there so it will be interesting to see if these ever get updated or not.

There is also an “About” and “Extras” buttons. These basically tell you about the Urban Bourbon Trail and give you options to send the app to a friend, learn more about the trail with a video, learn more about the Louisville area and reset the app so that you can travel the trail all over again.

Being about two hours away from Louisville it may take me a while to complete this, but I’m interested to see how smoothly getting the stamp codes and completing the passport really is.
